Veronica Needa Writer/Performer Veronica has been a theatre professional for over 20 years, and since 1991 has been involved in community cultural development through playback theatre – an original form of improvisational theatre working with personal stories from the audience. She is a graduate of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and the School of Playback Theatre (NY, USA). Teaching and performing internationally, she seeded Playback in Hong Kong, her original home, in 1997, where it has thrived. She is co-director of Playback AME (http://www.playbackame.co.uk) and founder of True Heart Theatre (http://www.trueheart.org) which specialises in the practice and performance of playback theatre as a service to the UK Chinese community – making our stories visible. True Heart aims to work multi-lingually in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, to encourage cross-cultural integration. She is a founding member of Yellow Earth Theatre, an ACE-funded British East Asian Theatre company, and was one of its Outreach & Education Coordinators, until retiring from YET in 2005 to pursue her own work. Her performance work includes : Behind The Chinese Take Away, The Butcher’s Skin (Yellow Earth Theatre); The Magic Paintbrush, Snow Queen, and The Snow Lion (Polka Theatre for Children); Macau 1,2,3 (Asian Peoples Theatre Festival Society – toured Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Kenya & Portugal); Face (Hong Kong Arts Centre) and Mappa Mundi (Border Crossing). And also storytelling at the V&A, Museum of London, Natural History Museum, National Portrait Gallery, and many Chinese community centres across the UK. |
